A Tale of Two Chias: Maya Chia Super Couple Luxe Face Oil & One Love Organics Oh Mega Calming Chia Face Oil Reviews

Picture and reviews of Maya Chia The Super Couple Astaxanthin + Chia Luxe Face Oil and One Love Organics Oh Mega Calming Chia Seed Face Oil

Overall I’ve been very happy with my Glowing Beets, Art of Organics and Beauty Heroes monthly beauty boxes. Some products are amazing and some are just OK, but I feel the same way about my Stitch Fix boxes.

Two real winners from my boxes so far have been One Love Organic Oh Mega Calming Chia Seed face oil from my October Art of Organics box and the Maya Chia The Super Couple Astaxanthin + Chia Ultra Luxe Face Oil from my January Beauty Heroes box.

I love cooking with chia seeds – who doesn’t love a healthy chia pudding! So I was excited to try them in my skin care. The January Beauty Heroes box also includes a special edition Maya Chia Waterless Wonder Balm (my picture of it was also one of my most liked instagrams).

I’m a bit face oil rich at the moment from the monthly beauty boxes and samples I come across: I’m still trying to evaluate and compare their nuances. These chia based face oils seemed like the best place to start in my evaluation. I’m still also a little confused about when and what order to use face oils. I believe in most cases I need to use them on top of moisturizer because moisturizer can’t penetrate oils? Or I could use them on my own at the end of my skin care routine, without moisturizer?

One Love Organics Oh Mega Calming Chia Seed Face Oil Review

This light but hydrating chia seed face oil also has a pleasant warming effect. When I wake up my skin feels very hydrated. It’s scent is fairly mild as far as face oils go. I could do without the lavender – this is a very strong essential oil for me. Most of the ingredients are organic which I like for a product I intend to use often. The oil is yellow to clear and absorbs fairly well.

Maya Chia The Super Couple Astaxanthin + Chia Ultra Luxe Face Oil Serum Review

It’s not entirely fair to compare this apples-to-apples to the Oh Mega Calming Chia seed face oil because the Maya Chia super couple oil seems to set out to do more and is best thought of as a serum.

This chia based face oil is very luxe, very orange (but translucent) and very fragrant. Almost a bit too fragrant for me but any normal person would absolutely love this. This oil feels like it’s doing something and my face did feel brighter in the morning when I woke up. I do think this is one of the products that contributed to a decrease in my melasma without hydroquinone, but I use many products at the same time so it’s hard to say for sure (If I’m going to be honest). This oil absorbs very well – my skin was thirsty for it – and it’s possible astaxanthin may be as brightening as Maya Chia claims – 65x that of Vitamin C.

Now back to the fragrant-ness of this super couple chia and astaxanthin face oil: this blend of essential oils were so fragrant they were distracting for me, but it didn’t prevent me from falling asleep when I wore it at night unlike many other face oils I have tried before. I’m very sensitive to rose essential oils but this wasn’t as rosy as you would expect from the ingredients. The myrrh stands out most to me. I’m also not a huge fan of frankincense, but this didn’t smell to frankincense-y to me.

Maya Chia The Super Couple Astaxanthin + Chia Ultra Luxe Face Oil Ingredients

Most of the ingredients are organic or wild-crafted

  • No parabens, phthalates or sulfates.
  • No synthetic fragrances.
  • No PEGs (I need to pay more attention to these)
  • Chia seed oil (supercritical…whatever that means)
  • Astaxanthin Extract
  • Jasmine
  • Bulgarian Rose
  • Sandalwood
  • Rosewood essential Oil
  • Carrot essential oil
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Cistus essential oil
  • Frankincense essential oil
  • Myrrh essential oil
  • Roman Chamomile flower essential oil
  • German Chamomile essential oil

If you can only choose one and price was no option, which should you buy? If you have very sensitive skin and are sensitive to scents – artificial, natural or essential oils – I would choose the Oh Mega calming chia oil because it is more calming (but I would prefer it without the lavender). If you want something more action-oriented, try the Maya Chia super couple chia face oil.
