Can Rosehip Oil Correct Dark Spots on Skin?

Can Rosehip Oil Reduce Dark Spots on Skin and Help Melasma

Having dealt with melasma and dark spot hyperpigmentation from a young age (now for almost 15 years!) I’ve been on a quest to find the best, healthiest and natural solutions to fade melasma and sun spots without having to use harsh chemicals.

In the past few years, I was particularly focused on not using retinol serums or prescription retinol while I was working to get pregnant and during our PCOS pregnancy. In my quest and the hundreds of products I’ve tried, I noticed rosehip oil or rosehip seed oil was a common ingredient in green beauty products I liked.

I don’t like rosey scents or essential oils but unlike rose oil, rosehip seed oil is produced from seeds with roses and are high in fatty acids (making this a great moisturizing oil!), vitamin E and antioxidant-rich carotenoids – a precursor to vitamin A. One of my new favorite sites – INCIdecorder helps to break down the types of rosehip seed oil.

One of my best friends seems to be reverse aging in every picture I see of her, but Kristen swears all she does is slather on some inexpensive rosehip oil from Amazon!

Stay tuned for a post on my favorite glowing clean beauty oil blends but in the meantime I’m reviewing a high and low rosehip oil options that may help correct dark spots on skin.

Deciem’s The Ordinary Rosehip Oil Review

The Ordinary’s 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil (available at Sephora) is a fragrance-free affordable rosehip seed oil skincare option to support dark spot correction. And I love that it’s stored in a glass uv-protection bottle (I’m always suspicious of brightening treatments that aren’t).

In my experience, this is a very mild oil that should work for your sensitive skin (or at least my sensitive skin loves it đŸ™‚ ). The Ordinary has had its fair share of controversies but like Drunk Elephant, I love this brand because I can guarantee I won’t find added fragrances. Since we quit artificial fragrances in our home 6 years ago any fragrances are distracting (at best) to me.

Much like extra virgin olive oil, I suppose we should be buying our rosehip seed oil cold-pressed to preserve the fatty acids like linoleic acid.

Honestly, I couldn’t tell a major difference between the Ordinary’s organic rosehip oil and Trilogy organic rosehip oil (from a small sample I used over a month).

Pai Skincare Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil Review

Now THIS organic rosehip seed oil is truly spectacular. It is a gorgeous bright orange color comprised of 2 forms of rosehip extract – rosehip seed extract and rosehip fruit extract (from rosa canina). However, I strongly suggest trying the travel size 10ml bottle first. Even though I use lots of organic skincare products daily, I have trouble making it through the small version of this Bioregenerate oil before it loses its intense color and aroma.

This lovely and unique organic rosehip oil actually a blend of rosehip seed extract and rosehip fruit extract. This Pai Skincare organic oil is also cruelty-free and vegan! I can’t wait to try their rosehip cleansing oil!

After extensive use, I think rosehip seed oil can be a great moisturizing oil but is most effective as part of a blend of antioxidants and other brightening ingredients in melasma treatment routines.
