If Kevyn Aucoin the sensual skin enhancer provides the best coverage for dark spots, melasma, hyperpigmentation and vitiligo, Cover FX (which also makes this a good alternative to Dermablend) and Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able full coverage foundation are close seconds.
I’m very surprised Sephora doesn’t recommend this full coverage foundation more. I had a friend (who honestly has beautiful, flawless skin and doesn’t need foundation) recommend it to me. I asked Sephora artists about it and they steered me to a few other formulas before I matched the color myself (the recommendation by the Skin ID was off), bought Bisque Media #26 and fell in love.

This has strong, buildable full coverage that looks and feels less plastic-y than Kevyn Aucoin the sensual skin enhancer. It’s finish is mostly matte – it reminds me of a beautiful suede finish – in a good way!
It’s a liquid pigment so it does blend well with other formulas or mixes well with lotions, creams and oils. This Marc Jacobs full coverage foundation looks incredible when mixed with Josie Maran vibrancy foundation, Cover FX custom cover drops, or illuminating highlighter liquids and primers, but then I find it loses it’s staying power. And especially when mixed with Josie Maran vibrancy foundation, it’s easily transferred onto clothing etc because the Josie Maran foundation is so easily transferred and smudged.
Generally speaking, this lasts strongly about 6 hours for me with full coverage and then starts to fade a bit, but still leaves me looking decent by the time I get in my car to leave work.
I experiment with the number of “dots” I apply on my face – but it’s normally at least 3 on each cheek, 3 above my upper lip (because of my upper lip melasma / melasma mustache), 1 on my chin and 2 on my forehead.

I wear Marc Jacobs Re(marcable) full cover foundation concentrate in Bisque Medium #26. It lasts all day and is great melasma makeup – covering my dark spots and melasma mustache / upper lip melasma and vitiligo.
In the before and after photos above you can see it completely covers my upper lip melasma! I don’t normally use powder to set this full coverage foundation since it has such a matte finish. I just set it with Dennis Gross Vitamin C spray. The beautiful blush and talc-free eyeshadow I’m wearing is from the Etsy shop Mother Bear’s Handmade. I change my mind daily on how to blend it – sometimes with my hands, sometimes with Sephora PRO foundation #47, Marc Jacobs the Face II sculpting foundation brush # 2 or a beauty blender.

What’s in this awesome full coverage foundation for dark spots, melasma and vitiligo?
Well first there is no talc! So it doesn’t irritate me. And this foundation is fragrance free – it has NO SCENT whatsoever which I LOVE! It has no parabens or phthalates either.
I wouldn’t call it natural though – so although I love it, recommend it often and wear it often, I’m still looking for a more natural or organic replacement which is very difficult.
If you are sensitive to silicone, this product will likely not agree with you. Luckily I haven’t found silicone to be too irritating to me, yet, but I’m aware they don’t necessarily help my skin when it is dry.
- Bis-hydroxyethoxypropyl Dimethicone – silicone
- Ethyl Trisiloxane – can’t find much about this, I believe it is a conditioner
- Caprylyl Methicone – another silicone
- Isododecane – an emolliant without many health warnings
- Polymethylsilsesquioxane – another silicone
- Trimethylsiloxysilicate – another silicone
- Dimethicone – silicone
- Jojoba Esters – Jojoba oil
- Hydrogenated Lecithin – seems to help with absorbtion
- Mica – adds color, low risk according to most ingredient review sites

- Disteardimonium Hectorite – used to thicken, seems to be made from natural ingredients (clay)
- Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer – I don’t like that it has the word vinyl it it; this seems to be a stabilizing silicone
