I’ve been using Ole Henriksen for years since it was first recommended to me at Sephora. I love that they are always updating their line and creating new products. I’m sure their product design updates last year made it easier for skin care newbies to understand which types of products are best for their skin concerns.
I’ve broken down all the Ole Henriksen skin care I’ve tried over the years as a helpful guide. I try to keep my reviews fairly short for you. I do have a major issue with this brand – its use of scents. Everything is highly scented. [In it’s SEO optimization at least] the brand would categorize themselves as a natural skin care brand. ‘Natural’ is definitely a loose term, espspecially where scents are concerned.
However, if you’re not as sensitive to scents as me, Sephora is a fantastic place to sample and find mini sizes and sets of Ole Henriksen like there 3 Little Wonders set.
Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Review
I so appreciate how Vitamin C focused Ole Henriksen’s line is, but in the years that I tried Truth Serum multiple times, I wasn’t impressed and am overwhelmed by the artificial orange scent. I’m not sure how much of a dent this is made in fighting my signs of aging and it doesn’t seem very hydrating for my skin. Honestly, I would recommend Sunday Riley’s SEO serum instead.
Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil Review
Maybe its because I’ve found so many fantastic natural and organic face oils, but this brightening oil smells like citrus dust cleaner and doesn’t give enough of a “wow” factor for me. This sounds so harsh typing this but the artificial fragrance is so intense you can hardly sense the base aroma of rose hip seed oil. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that most people seem to be in love with this oil so it may be worth at least sampling at Sephora.
Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Transformation™ Gel
I reviewed this a few years ago and its still one of my favorite, top-recommended Ole Henriksen products. It’s texture and action are somewhere between Tata Harper resurfacing mask and Kypris Moonlight Catalyst. This resurfacing formula is definitely gentle enough to use regularly, even if you have sensitive skin. This is serum gel is great for changing skin’s texture, but I also can’t say it’s made a major impact on my dark spots, hyperpigmentation and melasma.
New kids on the block: Ole Henriksen Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner and Goodnight Glow Retin-ALT Review
I know what you’re thinking….”you’re obsessed with clearing your dark spots and melasma, surely you’ve already tried a hole bottle”. The truth: I couldn’t even go through my sample. Too scented and too sugar scented and I didn’t like how my skin felt afterwards.
Ugggggh. I got samples of this sleeping creme and the serum too. Way tooo scenty. Why????? Good skin care gone bad unnecessarily due to scent. #anotheronebitesthedust
Totally Fine : Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation Moisturizer and Truth Revealed Brightening Moisturizer Review
These moisturizers used to be morning moisturizer and night cream for about a year. And honestly, I don’t think I saw any results. If you’re just dipping your pink toe into the high end skincare pond, you should try one of the Ole Henriksen sets from Sephora to try this lightweight, sugar powered sheer moisturizer. The Truth Revealed cream actually has a lovely texture but too sugar in scent and I only wear physical sunscreen now.
Actually Worth it: Ole Henriksen Power Peel System and Scrubs Review
- Pore Balance Facial Sauna Scrub – this warming and cooling mild scrub is very relaxing and refreshing. I use this mostly in the shower. Great as part of a set.
- Transforming Walnut Scrub – I got this as part of a set and I’ve really enjoyed it as a replacement for my Acure scrub. I’m not quite sure if I’ll repurchase yet. Definitely gets rid of dull skin.
- Ole Henriksen Transforming Power Peel System – MY FAVORITE Ole Henriksen product! This is a fantastic professional-results-at-home facial system. Right up there with my Erno Laszlo brightening system. This scrub combined with the lemon peel followed by the hydrating mask makes an excellent treat. This is one of my favorite brightening systems you can by at Sephora!
OK so I know it seems like I’m being pretty harsh on this totally fine brand. But its just that i expect more. I think if you only have minor skincare issues and you would probably love these products. If you are however even slightly sensitive to fragrance, this line may not be for you (but it’s not the worst offender in scent you will find at Sephora).
