Herbivore Botanical’s Glowing Skin Clean Beauty Stars: Emerald Oil and Prism Serum

Pictures, images and review of I love Herbivore's organic green Emerald glowing face oil for my melasma and hyperpigmentation. Squalane is a start ingredient of this hemp based oil.

I love that clean beauty is becoming more accessible than ever to the average gal and indie beauty brand Herbivore has done a wonderful job gaining traction across retailers.

I’ve tried most of their products over the years but I truly love their newest launches. It’s so wonderful that their newest products are more versatile too because they are far less scented.

Maybe you’re in Sephora right now browsing product reviews 🙂 so here’s a quick reading guide and honest opinions from a green beauty expert with hyperpigmentation on all things Herbivore

Herbivore’s Beautiful Blues: Lapis Oil and Blue Tansy AHA BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask

I tried really hard to get through my samples of these. I’m very sensitive to scents so I need to sample most products before I buy them. Unfortunately these are both too heavily scented from their natural ingredients. My yardstick for knowing if I will be handle a new skin care treatment long term is if I have any trouble falling asleep after I apply them to my face at night. Unfortunately these two didn’t pass the test. I’m hoping to try the Blue Tansy mask again soon. I’ve been building up my Blue Tansy tolerance through Josh Rosebrook product usage:)

The Lapis Oil and the resurfacing mask get great reviews, but if you are sensitive to scents these won’t be for you.

Herbivore’s Coconut and Rose CoCo Rose Collection

I tried. I really really did. But I just can’t handle most rose based products. The rose essence and scents are too intense. I loved the texture of the Coco Rose body polish but the overpowering rose ruined that scrub for me.

Same with the Coco Rose Coconut Oil Lip Polish and Lip Conditioner. The textures were amazing but the rose component gave me headaches.

I also tried the Sea Mist Coconut + Sea Salt Beach Wave Hair Mist and unfortunately it was less than mediocre 🙁

I love Herbivore's organic Brighten pineapple enzyme mask but their coco rose skin care line is too fragrant.

Herbivore Glow Stars: Prism Exfoliating Glow Polish and Emerald Hemp Moisture Glow Oil Review

Let’s start with Prism. I can’t explain the joy when I first sampled this and I wasn’t overwhelmed with scent (see above and below 🙂 ). This mix of acids (most I had tried before), fruits and hyaluronic acids makes a gentle liquid enzyme exfoliater with a great texture. Because of my melasma , dark spots and hyperpigmentation, I’ll try anything glowy or exfoliating and this serum treatment doesn’t disappoint. This is next on my list to buy after I finish my bottle of Kypris Moonlight Catalyst.

Now onto the newest all-start : Herbivore’s Emerald Cannabis Sativa Hemp Deep Moisture Glow Oil. Much like the Prism serum, I was overjoyed to find this luxe face oil isn’t scented. I have way too many face oils as is but I was highly intrigued by this one: squalane and adaptogens. I’ve been using squalane for over a year now but I love it mixed with other oils like this hemp oil potion.

Both of these glowy skin care products are versatile across skin types. Both the Prism and Emerald absorb well in my skin. For the Emerald at night it’s normally the last product I apply. If i use it in the morning I use a smaller amount and gentle pat on my face after serum when I wake up so my skin is ready for zinc sunscreen and makeup within the hour.

Something has supercharged my dark spot and melasma improvement lately…it might be these beauties!

Herbivore’s Brighten Pineapple Enzyme + Gemstone Instant Glow Mask

If you have sensitive skin this is a super gentle mask. Powered by fruit, rice and microscopic tourmaline, this is a smooth gelatinous mask. I personally found it a bit too gentle for a mask so I’ve mostly used it as a face wash. It leaves my face feeling clean and bright and not dry at all. This wouldn’t necessarily be on my repurchase list however – I haven’t seen spectacular enough results to not want to try something new in place of this with my green skin care budget.

Unfortunately most of their other clean skin care treatments are terribly fragrant (I’m looking at you Moon Fruit Superfruit Night Treatment and Jasmine Green Tea Toner). Herbivore doesn’t add artificial fragrances, but the natural fragrances, oils, ingredients etc they use are particularly fragrant and overhwleming. Well I take that back I’m going to try to give the Phoenix Cell Regenerating oil another go in a few months 🙂
