Paraben Free Organic Body Lotion Roundup: Acure Organics and Nourish Organic Body Lotion Reviews

When I was growing up, my mom wasn’t a huge fan of scented beauty products. She loved makeup. Loved skin care (so easy to see the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree). But when it came to scents or fragrance, she was very particular. And she never were perfume. She has always kept her body beauty products pretty simple. The only kind of body lotion we ever had in the house growing up with Curel. We used it for hand lotion too. It was in the kitchen and all of the bathrooms. It is my yardstick for what this wonderful moisturizing lotion should be.

The 24-hr moisturizing Curel we used to use seemed fragrance free or very “regular”. The scent seemed to disappear after application. The branding and packaging has changed over time but I remember the bottle being blue – in fact that called it “original formula” so long-time customers could distinguish it from the other variations. I remember the bottle always said “non-greasy” and “Dermatologist recommended”. Now that original product seems to be their Daily Healing lotion.

Curel was an incredible moisturizer. But that was probably because of the petrolatum. I don’t need to look up products obsessively in EWG Skindeep Database, ThinkDirty or the Good Guide: I’m going to use my best judgement here and say I’m going to try not to use petroleum derivative products. I’m not going to be fearful nor do I really care about the exact effects, but I know I’m figuring my life out without petroleum based products. Did I use to use Vaseline growing up? Sure! But now I try to use Waxelene.

Taking a quick scan, I’m not entirely surprised to see that this Daily Healing “original formula” does indeed contain added fragrance and two type of parabens in addition to the petrolatum. There certainly a few other chemicals in there but I’m not going to spend my time stressing out about my long-term Curel use: time to move on.

So I don’t use body lotion that often. If I do I mostly tend to use First Aid Beauty ultra repair cream. But I do pick up some new products every now and then and these are some of the natural body lotions I’ve tested over the bast year or so:

Acure Ultra Hydrating Organic Body Lotion Review:

So we know I love Acure Organics products, so I had hi hopes for this “ultra” hydrating body lotion. This is unscented and perfect for sensitive skin. However, this was not as Curel like as I need (I know I know how can I be so picky and want the texture of something that I know is impossible without the less natural ingredients). It’s a bit too watery for me – not the texture I was going for. It was sort of like when I chose my foray into natural shampoo to be Hugo Naturals natural shampoo (which turned my hair texture into sandpaper): not what I was going for. If you just need some type of moisture, and you don’t want to shell out for First Aid Beauty ultra repair cream, then Acure Ultra Hydrating location is a well-priced organic ingredient lotion alternative. It’s also completely paraben-free, sulfate-free, vegan and cruelty free.

Acure Organics Calming Body Lotion Review

Now this is a little more like the texture I was expecting – much less watery than the Acure ultra-hydrating. Even though I know I’m sensitive to most essential oils, I still find myself compulsively trying lavender based beauty products because they are supposed to be relaxing, calming and should help promote sleep. I gave this one a chance – ok quite a few chances but it’s still too lavender-y for me. If you love lavender this is a great organic ingredient lotion choice, especially at a cost of only about $10. You should be able to find this at your local Whole Foods or on Amazon. It’s a great natural alternative to Johnson & Johnson lavender scented bedtime lotion.

Nourish Organic Almond Vanillla Body Lotion Review

My husband loves this because it makes me smell like a delicious sugar cookie for about 30 minutes or so. I really like this formula itself – more of what i’m used to from Curel. Every now and then I can’t help but try scented products even though I tend to have issues with fragrances. This delicious but slightly overwhelming scent is due to the organic sweet almost oil but also “organic fragrance”. I wish they would disclose more what the “fragrance” is. I do like that they list there “Pledge of Purity” right on the bottle. No parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals and mineral oils. Nourish Organic also doesn’t use silicons, preservatives, propylene glycol or EDTA in their lotion. These are some ingredients I need to be more aware of – I see these most often in many products.

This Nourish Organic lotion reminds me of a homemade almond lotion I bought before on a trip to Maine from Primitive House Farm Brand. You can find them and their Angel Lotion Etsy. I was absolutely in love with their Almond lotion because the scent wasn’t too strong. However when I bought some more online the batch of almond scent they used was too chemical-ly. They were very kind enough to send me the coconut lime scent so I could test another scent.

If you love sweet scented beauty products and they don’t irritate you, I would recommend Nourish Organic or Primitive House Farm almond lotions. But if you are sensitive to scents like me, I would just stick with First Aid Beauty ultra repair lotion.
