Old Favorite and Non-Toxic Cleansing Oils and Balm Reviews: Tata Harper, One Love Organics, Erno Laszlo and More

Picture and reviews of cleansing oils: Tatcha Camellia Cleansing Oil, Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser, Josie Maran argan oil cleanser, Erno Laszlo phelityl oil and more.

So many face oils and cleansing oils with not enough time to use them all!

I’ve accidentally amassed a large collection over the years, so time cleanse my collection and compile a review roundup!

Erno Laszlo Phelityl Cleansing Oil Review

I love this oil because it is nostalgic and always reminds me of my mom. I mostly just use this for a heavy duty eye makeup remover if I need it, but the scent (yes I actually don’t mind this gentle scent) reminds me of home. My mom has used Erno Laszlo skin care almost exclusively for over 30 years, and she always looks youthful and radiant. Her skin is in amazing shape. She used to adhere to Erno Laszlo’s classic splashing system using the phelityl oil and the mud bar, but now she mostly just used the phelityl oil. I’ve used the phelityl oil in combination with the phelityl bar in the past, but that took too much time for me. If I’m cleaning my face I’m normally tired at night or in a hurry in the morning 🙂 so a splashing routine isn’t right for me.

Technically this is a pre-cleansing oil. But it is made without parabens, phthalates and sulfates. However, I don’t use it very often any more because it does contain mineral oil, mild added fragrance, retinyl palmitate, BHT and a few other things. But the avocado, sesame and apricot oil blend feels like a dream.

One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil Review

Wow….love this stuff. My One Love Organics collection is growing…blog post coming soon. This is a very clean, VERY GENTLE, cleanser that starts out as an oil and then turns into more of a gentle cleansing milk. This blend of sunflower, pumpkin and papaya oil leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft and not too dry. It has a little bit of scent, but overall it’s not irritating (yet 🙂 )

Tata Harper Organic Nourishing Oil Cleanser Review

I want to love this. Badly. Because it is organic and it works and it is luxe, but it is so fragrant from the “natural” flower and fruit extracts. I tried my best but I just can’t handle it. When I would use this at night I would have trouble falling sleep because it was so scented and the scent didn’t disappear. This is actually my major complain most Tata Harper products – the over-abundance of natural scents and extracts. They can be very…stressful. If you don’t mind scents those, this is a great hydrating blend of apricot, camellia, argan, sunflower and sachi inchi (some sort of powerful antioxidant?) oils.

Dermalogica Cleansing Oil Review

I got an awesome travel size set of Dermalogica pre-cleansing oil and gel cleaners the year – these system works really well and wasn’t too fragrant although I do believe it includes lavendar. Like the Erno Laszlo precleanse, it’s a mix of apricot, sunflower and other oils. But this pre cleansing oil also contains 3 types of parabens, so I wouldn’t recommend this.

Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil Review

Ehh….this is a tough one. It’s very gentle but the argan oil is very fragrant. I think the Tata Harper organic face cleansing oil works better, but it’s a toss up on whether the Tata Harper or Josie Maran is more distractingly fragrant. I have a few friends that love this cleansing oil though. And I love her organic spf moisturizer.

Tatcha Pure Camellia Cleansing Oil Review

I do like Tatcha products but I would prefer if they were unscented. This cleansing oil is very nice, very gentle yet effective. I would recommend this cleansing oil overall the Tata Harper and Josie Maran because the scent is milder. Not quite as good as the One Love Organics vitamin B cleansing oil. Similar to the Dermalogica, rice bran oil is a major part of this oil blend. And at least from an ingredient stand point the added fragrance is “natural”. I also appreciate that this cleansing oil is free of mineral oil, added colors, sulfates, parabens, PEGs, PPGs, Urea, DEA, TEA and phthalates.

The Holistic Science Company Olive and Marula Cleansing Oil Review

I really love this natural beauty company based in San Diego. This olive oil and marula based oil is one of my favorite products. This cleansing oil is very gentle and hardly scented – a much better alternative to Tata Harper nourishing cleansing oil. This is my close second recommendation after the One Love Organics cleansing oil. This vegan and preservative free cleanser is very effective yet leaves my skin feeling moisturized.

Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm Review

I included this in this cleansing oil bunch because it is a pleasantly oily cleansing balm. I really like this product and would like to try more from this brand, but I’m keeping in mind it does have added [natural] fragrance. This also contains a cleansing mud so it’s different than just the oil cleansers – try to get a sample of this brand the next time you to Sephora if you can. This Hungarian Omorovicza cleansing balm is made without PEGs, silicone, parabens, phthalates, sulfates and petrochemicals.

Boscia Charcoal MakeUp Melter Cleansing Oil-Balm Review

Oh Boscia. I used to be obsessed with this brand at Sephora, but I find i’m buying it less and less. Does this cleansing oil based balm work well? Yes. It is free of parabens? Yes. (Also free of other preservatives, colors and gluten). However, it is way too charcoal-y and too drying. I would recommend the Omorovicza balm cleanser over this Boscia version. Also the added non-synthetic fragrance in Boscia seems to be getting more intense with each new product they release (but that’s probably just me 🙂 ).
